Based in Devon, Macy Ford is a fashion, editorial, and portrait photographer whose work is rooted in a deep commitment to reshaping how women are represented in visual culture. Drawing from feminist theory and lived experience, Macy’s artistic vision is driven by the desire to subvert traditional portrayals of the female body, which have often been filtered through the lens of the male gaze. Instead, she reclaims this narrative through what can be described as the female gaze: a perspective that prioritizes authenticity, agency, and emotional nuance. Macy interprets and responds to the critical theories of figures like Laura Mulvey, translating academic discourse into compelling visual storytelling. By consciously reversing the passive objectification often found in mainstream media, she offers an alternative way of seeing; one that empowers, rather than diminishes, her subjects.
In 2024, Macy Ford took part in Unwritten, a collaborative group exhibition held at the Royal William Yard, where she debuted her first photobook, Bodies. Bodies. Bodies.. The exhibition marked a significant milestone in her career, introducing audiences to her evocative exploration of the female form and identity through intimate, naturalistic photography. Building on the success of this debut, Macy is now developing her second photobook, Ode, slated for publication in 2026. This upcoming body of work will encapsulate four years of her evolving practice, offering a powerful visual narrative that transforms the complexities and challenges of womanhood into something deeply poetic and empowering. Through Ode, Macy aims to celebrate the strength, resilience, and quiet beauty found in every stage of a woman’s journey.
